There are shelves on JJ walls. But I don't know if you're going to read all those books you're planning to bring. Also they're going to take valuable space, I suggest you pick favorites!

Yes, but don't bring too many books because you won't have time to read them, and then you'll run out of space later when you accumulate books from classes. Happened to me.

oh! maybe shira can answer this, but how big are the closets? i have no idea how many clothes i'm going to be able to fit in there. i saw one at DOC, but not open, so i can't guage for myself.

The closets aren't huge, but I found them to be adequate. They're very tall, too.

Yes, the shelves are modular. Usually a room starts with three shelves, but you can request more if you find you need them, and maintenance is pretty good about installing them.

Yeah, the shelves are modular, which is quite nifty. I think I had four in my room. Also, you can usually steal extras from the basement or someplace if need be. ;) Bookcases turn up on the curb in NYC all the time.
